Good Overview of Object-Oriented Client/server Systems
I read this back sometime ago and found it to be a good and quick overview of how three powerful technologies (object-oriented, client/server, Internet) are becoming the foundation for developing future applications. I re-read the book lately and found that although the book is old (5 years), it still has very relevant material that can be read quickly to get the general idea. I was also delighted to see that the author has written a new handbook (e-Business and Distributed Systems handbook) that is published as eight modules. These modules provide a very comprehensive view of the topics that are mentioned in this book but are given a new and more in-depth coverage in the handbook.

An overly academic writing style
The concepts are adequately explained with enough mention of real-world applications, but get ready to skim the unbelievable amount of text devoted to referencing other materials. The most annoying thing about this text is the constant references to thousands of other books and articles. It is also one of the most poorly indexed texts I have ever seen; good luck finding what you're looking for.

Absolutely horrible book
This books is absolute vague in its description and spends most of its print explaining to the reader where to get most of the information. This book is an exercise on how to write a huge index file to what books to read for what information. I highly recommend readers to look elsewhere than to read this material.
