java 1.0 - very dated
The first 150 pages of this book is a review of java, all using the awt 1.0 event model. Of course no one should be learning awt 1.0 at this point. This makes the rest of the book a real pain to read. The publisher should really bring out a second edition using Swing components (or at least update the code to awt 1.1 event model).

Very useful
I have found this book to be an excellent complement to a book on coding in Java. It provides easy to follow steps for building classes and shows several implementations for building structures that handle the primitive data type 'int'. It doesn't waste time with a lot of scary details like most data structures books I have seen.
