Excellent thorough presentation
I'm using CODARTS in my everyday job and have found it to be an excellent approach for real time system design and development. We had the opportunity to have Dr. Gomaa as a consultant on our project and his methodology is a great tool in identifying scenarios, system states, flows, objects, and collaboration or sequence diagrams. He is currently writing a UML version of this book. Our project is using CODARTS, UML, and Rational Rose. He provides excellent examples of concurrent systems using banking and elevator systems. Overall, I'd recommend you buy this book if you are going to do any concurrent systems now or in the future. It now sits on my bookshelf in a prominent location, because of its clear description of how CODARTS works and what I need to do to design a great object oriented real time system.

Thorough treatment of various real-time techniques
Dr. Gomaa discusses real-time analysis and design in a very lucid, yet compact, book. Even in this day of full object-orientation and UML, he presents timeless techniques and thought processes that are still applicable to the development of real-time systems. He is also one of the few authors who treat performance issues in a modern, quantitative way. The reader must be patient enough to translate the book's notation into something more compatible with the UML, but the book's still worth the purchase price.
