Customer ReviewsRating: 5 out of 5 The title of this book says it all If you're already a programmer, particularly if you're coming from a "visual" environment such as VB, Cafe, Flash, etc, this is the only REALbasic book you will need to buy. Matt's book is exactly the solid programming reference you would expect from O'Reilly. This plus Real's own Language Reference and mailing list archives are all the literature an experienced programmer will need.If you want to start with more basics, consider the Dummies book as a first read. It's just as worthy a book, but the patience Erick takes in the examples will be appreciated by a more novice programmer. Rating: 3 out of 5 Good, but outdated This covers some really good information, and really expands on what is found in the included documentation, however it is woefully out of date, and only getting moreso with the impending release of version 5.0 next month. If it covered a 4.x version, I'd have given it at least a 4, 4.5 if I could. Rating: 5 out of 5 The REAL Thing You can save yourself a lot of time and avoid a lot of false starts if you go right to this book. Commit yourself to the first 50 pages, and you'll be hooked. Use your own imagination a little bit as you go along. In the final analysis, you'll have a better understanding of REALbasic than other books that have flashy examples and limit your horizons. This book will open the whole world to you. Don't be intimidated by it: it's the REAL thing! Don't be dazzled by the lure of instant success that other books might promise. Get into this book, and it won't be long until you fully appreciate a job extremely well done: the best I've seen since the days of Danny Goodman and the HyperCard Handbooks.
