Customer ReviewsRating: 1 out of 5 Lacking Textures As I turn to the back cover of my copy... I see... Here's exactly what the CD includes: -Over a hundred sample files, maps, and textures from the examples in the book- so you can copy and paste files into your projects instead of starting from scratchI quickly noticed that this CD does NOT have ANY textures or maps. -A library of Web and presentation graphics to help you enhance your 3d studio max projects and presentations -Hey, it has a library... anything ranging from a naked kid in a tub to a little girl standing next to a door... how could that POSSIBLY help my 3d studio projects/presentations? -A library of over 200 3D studio max plug ins, scripts, and effects to enhance and enrich the way you use MAX. -WHAT? There is not one single plug in on this whole CD... The only thing that I didn't mention about this cd is that it comes with some links to vendors of plugins... REAL helpful... I could just look at the resource guide that ships with 3ds max... It's a good book, but I feel that it loses 4 stars due to the fact of the outright LYING about the cd. I personally would pay for the book without the cd, Its a great reference, but when I noticed that it came with a cd, that sweetened the deal; so I picked up a copy. You really dont want this if youre looking for textures, materials, or anything helpful from this useless piece of plastic. Rating: 2 out of 5 Way below par I stepped into this book knowing VERY little about 3dsmax and 3D modelling in general. The book is very unfocused. It starts to explain something like modifying a spline, but doesn't go into detail when they tell you to lock the vertices to modify them all at once. It's like the author has a severe case of ADD. Then again, it was written by--how many?--eight authors? And at around 1300 pages, it's just TOO big. This book is the perfect example of "too many cooks in the kitchen."This may serve as a somewhat decent reference, but beginners stay away. I'm going to try something else instead.. Rating: 5 out of 5 Extremely Helpful Book This book, which I have read off of a friend and have yet to buy a copy of my own, is the perfect way for the intelligent reader to learn the ways of such an awesome program It gets 5 Stars from myself and several other people that I know of. It is becase of this book that I have started my own business.
