The BEST beginners book for ASP.NET
At first I was pretty skeptical of the dummies series. I have a B.S. in computer science and I am fairly adept at programming with Java and C++. I was afraid that this book wouldn't be able to go into the level of detail that I needed to complete the project I was working on. I originally started with Microsoft Press's ASP.NET and ADO.NET - usually a good series. But this book was much better. It is very straightforward and the sample code that comes with the CD is invaluable. At approximately $25 - it's worth every penny - especially considering most books on the topic are well over $50. I would recommend this book to anyone who knows a little bit about Relational Databases and Object Oriented Programming. It's particularly valuable for someone who already knows Visual Basic and just needs a little help getting up and running with ASP/ADO.NET. The only problem I encountered with the book is that it fails to mention when using MS Access and ADO - you have to be careful not to use reserved words. One of the sample programs provided with the book - Classy Classifieds - won't run properly unless you change the authors database field and every reference to in the code from Password to Pssword or something else. But that is really not a big deal and I still give this book 5 stars.

Don't waste your money
Buy Murach's ASP.NET web programming with VB.NET. The "Dummies" will give no value to a developer. The previous book mentioned will get you up and running.

Great book for .net beginners
If you are a novice to asp.net, I strongly recommend this book. It doesn't cover much database access stuff but perfect for understanding .NET web forms etc.
