"Essentials" Lives On!
I have been teaching people computers for over 15 years, so I have seen a quite number of manuals and "how-to" books. I am currently teaching college prep computer science to high school students and using this edition. It is wonderful! There are step-by-step lessons, with pictures of what you should see on your computer screen. At the end of every chapter there are true/false question, multiple choice matching, discussions questions, drills and challenging exercises. There are three levels to this series: Basic, Intermediate and Advance. As a teacher I found Prentice Hall's internet connection with the book extremely helpful. They have a web site for students and teachers. The web site contains practice files and study guides (by lesson) for the students, and Powerpoint presentations and solutions for the teacher. What more could you ask for!
