Companion to Human Right Organisations and NGOs'
The power of Internet supported activism can be seen from the very fact that 1997 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, whose part of activism-effort was mainly based on 'Web' activities. Jim Walch starts the first chapter of his "In the Net" with this historical phenomenon, and focuses activism movement in the Net from different angles. Starting with the basic approach and tools of Internet supported activism movement, he goes to explain the relatively new happenings in the Internet with several recent examples, e.g. Net-Activism in Bosnia-war or solidarity efforts in East Timor. Not only an in-depth analysis of crisis communication, but also the suitable approach for emancipatory action in the web with suitable example makes the book a must for Human Right Organisations and NGOs'. Increase uses of net give rise to anxiety of information overflow in the 21st Century. Information Managers are now trying to utilise the interactive capacity of Internet through methodical approach like 'Push' or 'Pull' technology. It would have been better if the author has discussed these techniques so that the readers may have an idea how one can attract the interest of maximum people.
