Review of Understanding GIS: the AI method
This is a decent starting point for someone who wants to learn ArcInfo. However, it should only be used in consultation with a professional. There are many many details left out of the book. There are many many pitfalls to learning ArcInfo that are not included. Use this book, but don't expect to learn ArcInfo from it; truly learning ArcInfo is a process that takes a few years at the least.

ARC/INFO Basics
This book explains the basic concepts of the ARC/INFO GIS and handles the basic functions of ARC/INFO key by key. It's begins with the data structure, digitizing process, data cleanup, till the final map composition. It's a useful starting point for dummies as well as for more experienced GIS users with no ARC/INFO experience. When you've gone through this book ARC/INFO will certainly not have given all his secrets free but their will be a light in the darkness.

Good fundamental book for the beginning GIS student.
I have used this book as a GIS lab manual for the past 3 years for a beginning GIS course and find that the book is well organized. It takes students all the way from data entry to analysis. The book is clear enough to be used without assistance.

This book has set the defacto standard for GIS lab manuals.
